 Submachine Gun Course 

COURSE LENGTH:  2 days

The APT Submachine Gun Course is designed to teach military personnel, law enforcement officers, and qualified civilians the safe, effective, and confident operation of the submachine gun platform.

The course combines classroom instruction with practical range training.  Emphasis is placed on safe weapons handling, proper manipulation, accuracy, movement, and effective operation of the submachine gun under a variety of shooting conditions.

Course Topics:

  • Firearm safety and proper handling

  • Nomenclature and weapon-system familiarization

  • Assembly and disassembly

  • Loading, unloading, and reloading

  • Shooting fundamentals and positions

  • Immediate-action and malfunction drills

  • Shooting from and around cover

  • Shooting while moving

  • Static and moving turns

  • Multiple-target engagements

  • Transition from submachine gun to handgun

  • Practical shooting drills and scenario-based exercises

 

Students will progress from fundamental weapon handling and marksmanship to more demanding drills involving movement, weapon manipulation, multiple targets, and engagement from a variety of positions.

The goal of the course is to develop the confidence, accuracy, and weapon-handling skills necessary to safely and effectively operate the submachine gun in a professional training environment.

Prerequisites:

Students must have successfully completed the following APT courses, or approved equivalent training:
 

  • APT Tactical Handgun I Course and

  • APT Pistol Caliber Carbine Course OR

  • APT SLR/Patrol Rifle Course

 

These prerequisites ensure students arrive with the handgun and long-gun handling skills necessary to safely participate in the more advanced drills presented during the Submachine Gun Course.

 

Equipment Needed:

  • Submachine gun — open- or closed-bolt

  • 1,200 rounds minimum of appropriate ammunition – factory 9 mm ammo –
    NO RELOADS.

  • Eye protection

  • Hearing protection

  • Knee and elbow pads

  • Chest rig or appropriate load-bearing equipment

  • Pistol

  • Pistol magazine pouch

  • Minimum of 3 magazines for each firearm

  • Hat or appropriate headwear

  • Appropriate range clothing and footwear

  • Foul-weather gear
